simply for me ... faith is

something that brings you back to what you know and keeps you in good stead when you think you don't. it's almost a beacon, a guidance system, a need, a wish, a truth.

this article has a good description of fate and it's place in things
it's just one way of looking at things, but it's thought provoking.
perhaps you'll find the answer within.

faith is the belief in the unproven...to me, it is the still small seed of truth in everything, your understanding of the universe, the trust and language in your god (or whatever)

suspension of disbelief is very apt...but not quite right to me in defining faith

faith, to me, is not quite the suspension of disbelief, but the acceptance of all possibilites on a deeper level.

There are several Dictionary definitions of faith as I looked it up just now:
1: Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2: Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief. See Synonyms at trust.
3: Loyalty to a person or thing; allegiance: keeping faith with one's supporters.
4: often Faith Christianity. The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will.
5: The body of dogma of a religion: the Muslim faith.
6: A set of principles or beliefs.

I don't think that dictionary definitions are really what you're looking for in this question but I thought I'd list them anyway as a sort of reference. :) I believe that what you're looking for is what faith means to me. Well what faith means to me is putting your entire trust in someone or something and truly believing that that person or that thing won't do you wrong. To me, to truly have faith, you have little or no doubt in your mind of the person or object that you choose to give this to.
